… for head sommelier Stephan Nitzsche / L. A. Jordan
VDP. Prädikatsweinguter and meiningers sommelier award “Excellent Wine Concepts” at the VDP.Weinbörse 2026 in Mainz.
The prestigious “Excellent Wine Concept 2026” award was presented by the VDP in cooperation with meiningers sommelier. The coveted award, recognizable by a brass plaque, honours gastronomic establishments with outstanding advice, a clear signature and a strong focus on German wines.
Laudatory speech by editor-in-chief Sascha Speicher:
Wine tourism in its highest quality form, perhaps a little posh and ostentatious at times: no other German wine town stands for this like Deidesheim. In addition to the local wineries, the Ketschauer Hof Group with its hotels and restaurants plays a major role in the town’s tourism success. However, the example of L. A. Jordan shows that it takes time and, above all, continuity to develop an excellent wine concept. Stephan Nitzsche has been working there as a sommelier for five years, after several changes in this position, and with patience he has built up a wine selection that is absolutely on a par with Daniel Schimkowitsch’s star cuisine. Initially, the selection of German wines was very much focused on the three wineries belonging to the group, but even then with a breathtaking depth of vintage. In recent years, this foundation has been massively expanded. Today, the Palatinate is almost fully represented, including other estates such as Dr. Bürklin-Wolf and Odinstal with impressive depth of vintage. In addition, big names from eight other German wine-growing regions ensure that the whole of Germany is represented in a manner befitting its status.
